Making room for what's emerging

Dear Reader,

A few weeks ago, I shared a newsletter about why direction is more important than efficiency. You can read it here.

The response surprised me. It reminded me that so many of us aren’t struggling because we aren’t working hard enough, we’re struggling because we’ve inherited ways of working that leave very little room for being human.

I thought I’d give you a behind-the-scenes look at what that philosophy looks like in my own life.

After a few weeks of slowing down and resting, I decided to practice what I had just shared with you. I pulled out my Seasonal Planning Workbook from my last newsletter and, instead of asking, “What’s next?” I asked myself a different question:

What season am I actually in, and what is it asking of me?

Rather than jumping into another launch or project, I realized I was in a season of listening, reorganizing, and paying attention to what was emerging.

During that process, a phrase kept returning to me:

Creative Authority.

I didn’t know what it meant.

I didn’t try to define it.

I simply stayed curious.

Over the next few weeks, it quietly began rearranging things.

I realized my website was still organized around the version of my business when coaching was at the center. Today, speaking has become the heart of my work. That wasn’t just a marketing realization, it was an identity shift.

I updated my website, and for the first time, it felt less like I was trying to explain myself and more like I had created a container spacious enough to hold the full breadth of my work.

Then another thread appeared.

When I first started writing years ago, my blog wasn’t about leadership.

It was about my life.

My questions.

The invisible threads I couldn’t stop noticing.

Some of you have been with me since those early days, and I’m so grateful you’ve witnessed the evolution.

As my work evolved, so did this newsletter. It naturally became more focused on leadership, and I love that.

But lately, I’ve found myself missing the personal process behind the work.

The conversations that change me.

The patterns I only recognize in hindsight.

The moments I affectionately call Goddess Winks.

For a while, I wondered where those stories belonged.

Would they confuse people?

Would they dilute my message?

Then I realized I was asking the wrong question.

I wasn’t struggling because I had too many interests.

I was trying to fit a multidimensional life into systems designed for linearity.

Most personal and professional development teaches us how to fit ourselves into existing structures.

My work is about helping people create containers spacious enough for who they’re becoming.

I’ve realized the answer isn’t to become less complex. It’s to find, create, and nurture containers spacious enough for who we’re becoming.

That’s what led me to Substack.

Not because I needed another platform.

Because I wanted a place spacious enough for all the conversations I want to have.

Leadership.

Voice.

Creativity.

Science.

Energetics.

The Comsos.

The invisible threads connecting them all.

This newsletter isn’t changing.

It will continue to be a place where I share insights, tools, and reflections on leadership and creating greater possibilities.

I'm just making room for more........

A New Container

I'm excited to share that I've launched Invisible Threads on Substack.

It isn't replacing this newsletter. Think of it as a companion space, a place for the personal stories, invisible threads, and creative process that shape my work long before they become a keynote, workshop, or framework.

If you've ever wondered how an idea becomes a framework, a keynote, or a workshop...this is where I'll be sharing that journey.

I'd love to welcome you there.

Put This Into Practice

This newsletter is a real-life example of my Seasonal Planning framework in action.

If you're feeling the pull to pause, reflect, and discover what season you're in, my workbook will guide you through the same process I used this month.

Inside you'll find guided reflections, planning exercises, and a companion video to help you honor where you've been, gain clarity about where you are, and intentionally co-create what's next.

My Next Season

Before I head off for a couple of weeks of rest, travel, and renewal, I wanted to share a few things I'm looking forward to.

August: My talk for the American Medical Women's Association, Own Your Worthiness: Creating a More Sustainable and Fulfilling Life in Medicine, has been rescheduled for August, please register and/or share this link: bit.ly/447yLtS

I'll also be facilitating a Joy Bonding Workshop for expanded learning professionals, a creative experience designed to strengthen connection, collaboration, and well-being.

As I prepared for this next season, I updated my website so it better reflects the work I'm doing today—from keynote speaking and leadership workshops to vocal empowerment and creative team experiences.

If you're planning a conference, leadership retreat, professional development event, or team experience, I'd love to explore what's possible.

Visit my updated website and inquire about bringing this work to your organization →

Here's to creating containers that honor our seasons,

Dear Reader, I'm back from my vacation to Mexico and Peru and I've shared pieces of this story since returning. Something about it really seemed to resonate. I think it's because it's not actually a story about Peru. It's a story about what happens when we trust ourselves before we have proof that we're right. Twenty-two years ago, I made a decision that changed the trajectory of my life. I just didn't know it at the time. I was a relatively new professor, had recently moved to Brooklyn, and...

Dear Reader, I've been surprisingly lazy this week. That looks like listening to romance novels on Audible, watching lots of World Cup matches with my family and literally sitting in bed till 10:30 am doing absolutely nothing. Just a few years ago, I would have been incredibly uncomfortable admitting that. I would have felt guilty. I would have wondered if I was wasting time. I would have started another project just to feel productive again. Then I came across a photo of a cheetah resting in...

Dear Reader, The first time I invested in coaching, all I was willing to spend was a couple hundred dollars for a four-week virtual “Design Your Career” workshop. At the time, that felt like a huge stretch but because it was for my career, I could justify that investment. Shortly after, the organization I would eventually complete my coach training through offered a weekend “Design Your Life” intensive. I remember wanting to go. I also remember all the reasons I couldn’t. I had a young son at...
