The cost of not listening to what's ripe

Well hello Reader,

I can’t believe this is my first newsletter of the year….it’s probably too late to say Happy New Years but I’m going to do it anyways.

I’ve never felt aligned with the whole new year resolution, set your goals and go for it energy at Jan 1st. The reality is that most people are just not ready to know what this year has in store for them. Many and that may include you are still recovering from the holidays or 2024.

While I’m all about reflection to plan so that you are designing based on your data, I didn’t do that last year. 2022 and 2023 were good years for me and I started 2024 with an agenda of just doing and expecting more. I didn’t pause to really listen to what was ready and align my vision with it.

One of my favorite questions in my North Star Clarity Planning Tool is what’s ripe? Going for it without slowing down to be intentional, not only about what you want but what is ripe can really steer your year, career and well-being in the wrong direction.

I missed asking myself this question last January and it turns out, my year had a totally different purpose than what I had planned. As a result I struggled. To be fair, it seems like 2024 was a demanding year for a lot of people. Some years are like that, but I do believe we have some agency in how we shape our year, roles and experiences so that we can surf the waves rather than push up against them.

One thing I’ve noticed with my clients is that they run for clarity before they have enough information. There’s a false sense of security that comes from knowing but true empowerment comes from c0-creating from the unknown.

When you settle for the options you believe are available rather than approaching confusion with curiosity about what could be created, you risk missing out on new possibilities that align perfectly with a more authentic and greater vision of your potential.

The good news is that you don’t have to navigate the unknown alone. Imagine partnering with someone who not only acts as a flashlight, illuminating your path, but also equips you with the tools to carve a smoother journey toward the destination you truly desire.

If that’s something you are looking for this year, I'm your woman. I’m committed to supporting as many people as I can this first quarter to step into greater possibility through 1-1 coaching. My packages:

  • run from 4-6 months
  • include two calls a month (60 mins)
  • have unlimited email/whatsapp communication in between
  • can be paid via payment plans

If you fall into one of these categories, sign up for a 30 minute connection call with me to see if we are a right fit.

»Mid-Career Professionals at a Career Crossroads -Gain clarity and confidence to navigate the unknown

» Leadership Development for Rising Leaders - Find voice, trust self, overcome imposter feelings

» Executive Evolution - Explore thought leadership, grow impact without burnout

Either way, I’m confident you’ll gain greater clarity. Here’s an example of what you can expect from coaching:

A recent client approached me after his institution underwent a significant reorganization. Like many others in similar situations, the trajectory of his long-standing career was no longer aligning with his expectations.

He had already achieved a great deal in his career and still aspired to make a significant impact in his profession. At the same time, he was craving more rejuvenation in his day-to-day life. He wasn’t ready for early retirement, but he also didn’t want to hustle amidst all the ongoing changes.

I guided him through a process of reflection, helping him cultivate genuine self-awareness about what he truly desired. More importantly, I helped him give himself permission to articulate those desires. No matter how ambitious or accomplished someone is, I’ve found that this can be one of the hardest things for driven professionals to do.

When you clearly articulate your most authentic vision, it’s like striking a match in a dark room—suddenly, possibilities and opportunities that were hidden come to light. In his case, he realized that, despite spending several years in academia, he had never taken a sabbatical.

The next thing I help my clients with is creating the structures to bring the vision into form. This includes mindset, strategy, idea articulation, and preparing for perceived barriers, etc.

With this client, we focused on narrowing down ideas and identifying those that would create meaningful impact while also providing opportunities for rejuvenation—such as the possibility of working while traveling the world.

Every step of the way, we ensured his actions were aligned with his values, intentions, and vision for the next chapter of his life. He recently sent me this message:

I’d love to support you in creating new possibilities for your career and personal growth.

This process is not only clarifying and empowering but also unlocks a world of “both/and” thinking—a space full of potential and opportunity. For me, this is the most exciting place to operate because what keeps most people stuck is the limitation of “either/or” thinking.

Let’s break through those limits and open the door to fresh opportunities for your career and growth. Sign up for a call with me here to explore your possibilities.

Here's to co-creating,

Dear Reader, I'm back from my vacation to Mexico and Peru and I've shared pieces of this story since returning. Something about it really seemed to resonate. I think it's because it's not actually a story about Peru. It's a story about what happens when we trust ourselves before we have proof that we're right. Twenty-two years ago, I made a decision that changed the trajectory of my life. I just didn't know it at the time. I was a relatively new professor, had recently moved to Brooklyn, and...

Dear Reader, A few weeks ago, I shared a newsletter about why direction is more important than efficiency. You can read it here. The response surprised me. It reminded me that so many of us aren’t struggling because we aren’t working hard enough, we’re struggling because we’ve inherited ways of working that leave very little room for being human. I thought I’d give you a behind-the-scenes look at what that philosophy looks like in my own life. After a few weeks of slowing down and resting, I...

Dear Reader, I've been surprisingly lazy this week. That looks like listening to romance novels on Audible, watching lots of World Cup matches with my family and literally sitting in bed till 10:30 am doing absolutely nothing. Just a few years ago, I would have been incredibly uncomfortable admitting that. I would have felt guilty. I would have wondered if I was wasting time. I would have started another project just to feel productive again. Then I came across a photo of a cheetah resting in...
